Network / Research networks / PaRaMetriC

PaRaMetriC

Snapshot

Kind Joint research project of the European Partnership on Metrology (EPM), project 21GRD03, co-financed by Horizon Europe and the participating states
Coordination INRIM, Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (Turin, Italy)
Goal A metrological framework for comparable performance assessment of passive radiative cooling (PRC) technologies
Consortium 17 partners: national metrology and designated institutes, research centres and universities, and companies

Why it matters for emissivity

A passive radiative cooler only works as well as its spectral properties allow: high reflectance in the solar range and high emissivity in the atmospheric window around 8–13 µm. That makes emissivity and reflectance metrology the foundation of any fair comparison between cooling materials. PaRaMetriC’s objectives include performance-assessment standards, validated models linking cooling performance to material properties, accurate methods for thermophysical properties, and on-site test protocols with a target uncertainty below 10 %.

Unlike TAMARYS, PaRaMetriC is a fixed-term project consortium rather than an open network. It is listed here because its partners and results sit at the heart of emissivity metrology.

On the research map

Consortium partners with a research-map profile:

Other partners: INRIM, Aalto University, CMI, DFM, RISE, CNR, FIW München, NKUA Athens and Politecnico di Torino, plus the companies Almeco, Cooling Photonics and CTI. See the project’s consortium page.

The engineered-emissivity laboratories on the map (see ecosystems) are the natural users of the framework PaRaMetriC is building.
