RTSTM 2026: radiative transfer school in Hendaye

The International CNRS Thematic School on Radiative Transfer in Semi-Transparent Media takes place on 3–9 October 2026 in Hendaye, just across the Bidasoa from the Basque Country. It is organised by the French research federation TAMARYS.

Over a week, about 65 doctoral students, researchers and engineers will cover:

• Lectures on the basics of thermal radiation, solving the RTE, gas radiation and its approximate models, scattering in particulate media, radiation physics of solids, near-field transfer, and identifying the radiative properties of semi-transparent media.
• Practical sessions on advanced Monte Carlo methods, IR thermography and spectroscopy, and modelling of gas radiative properties.
• Evening seminars with ArianeGroup (atmospheric re-entry) and Saint-Gobain (high-temperature furnaces).
