Plasma-assisted combustion, from hydrocarbons to hydrogen

On 25 June 2026, Jean-Baptiste Perrin-Terrin defended his doctoral thesis, “Plasma-assisted combustion in low emissions burners: from hydrocarbons to hydrogen,” at CentraleSupélec. The work was funded by the ERC GreenBlue project and addresses a question central to cleaner high-temperature energy: how plasma discharges can assist low-emission combustion, from hydrocarbon to hydrogen flames.

The defence was announced to the TAMARYS research network, which brings together French laboratories working on radiation, extreme-environment materials and high-temperature systems. As the announcement put it, the work advances both the understanding of fundamental effects and their practical implementation, and it matters for the cleaner energy solutions of the future. Reported here with the agreement of the network's coordination, following Mireia Sainz's thesis in June.
